This workshop will give you the opportunity to make a ceramic birdhouse for your garden. Your birdhouse will be made from stoneware clay using the slab building method. The finished birdhouse would make a perfect gift for family and friends or a lovely addition to your garden.
During the first part of the workshop I will demonstrate in stages, how to construct the main section of your birdhouse, starting with rolling a slab of clay and forming a cylinder. As the session progresses I will show you ways to decorate and personalise your creation.
When your birdhouse has been constructed you will be able to paint it using a range of coloured slips
After the workshop, your birdhouse will be bisque fired to 1000°C, I will then glaze your pieces with a transparent glaze and fire again to 1200°C.
Finished birdhouses can be collected in approximately 3 to 6 weeks (depending on weather/drying conditions). Postage can be arranged and I will be able to discuss options with you on the day as cost may vary depending on the weight of your finished item.
The workshop will run from 10am – 4pm with a half hour stop for lunch at 12:30.
This course is suitable for all abilities.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided but please bring your own lunch.
