Hi, I'm Liane

I’ve worked as a professional ceramic artist since graduating from Loughborough College of Art and Design in 1990 with a BA honours degree in ceramics.

I’ve also been teaching ceramics and pottery at Adult Learning in Surrey for over 20 years. It’s deeply rewarding to see the joy that ceramics and pottery brings to people, as they visualise and create their ideas.

I’m very happy to have recently built a larger studio in my garden, where I’m able to teach small classes and workshops. This gives me the opportunity to spend time with each learner in a comfortable setting and help them with their pottery journeys.

While I’m keeping my classes small, to give people space to work with as much support as they need, I’m happy to discuss private bookings if you are a group of 5 or 6 who would like to book a workshop together.

Ceramic Art

Liane has always taken inspiration from nature for her ceramic pieces, and she’s especially drawn to shells, rocks and pebbles. Being diagnosed as an autistic person in recent years was a revelation for her. She began to make sense of herself, including her life-long fascination with textures, and the various ways that quite intense sensations can be created from different surfaces. Textures have always been a strong influence on her, from clothing, the items in her home, through to the surfaces she creates on her ceramics.

Best known for her charmingly textural animals, she has recently explored other forms including vessels, torsos, and pebbles, whilst still incorporating her ‘fascination with textures’.
Often she will include some text or verse on her pieces. Her father (a type setter in the 1960’s) taught Liane how to use his Adana Printing Press, and using type face which he left to her, the words she adds will always hold some personal meaning, often relating to life experiences.
