Nerikomi Porcelain Mug Workshop

Nerikomi Porcelain Mug Workshop

Nerikomi is a Japanese pottery term describing the artistic technique where multiple colours of clay are marbled or combined to create various designs.

This workshop will give you the opportunity to make a beautiful and unique, nerikomi mug. The nerikomi will be made using porcelain and your finished mug would make perfect gifts for family and friends or a lovely treat for yourself.

During the first part of the workshop I will demonstrate how to mix colour underglaze with the porcelain. When we have a selection of colours mixed, I will demonstrate various ways to create beautiful patterns in order to form your mug.
I will then guide you through the process of making a slab built mug.

Should you have any extra time after making your mug you use any left over pieces of clay to make coasters or jewellery items.

After the workshop, your mug will be bisque fired to 950°C. I will glaze the inside and rim of your mug with a transparent glaze and it will then be fired again to 1250°C at which temperature the porcelain takes on its beautiful, translucent characteristics.

Finished mugs can be collected in approximately 3 to 6 weeks (depending on weather/drying conditions) or posted for a P&P cost of £10.
